Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a general term for treating mental health problems! Psychotherapists use a variety of therapies/treatments to help people identify emotional difficulties and change their troubling thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Treatments vary, depending on the individual, however all sessions provide people with the opportunity to be heard, to acquire new perspectives and to address their concerns. Psychotherapy helps individuals to acquire the tools necessary to navigate whatever is going on in their life and it is a valuable opportunity to gain clarity, support and direction.

Leanne is an experienced psychotherapist with over 20 years of therapeutic practice and experience. She has studied many theoretical frameworks over the years and most recently she completed a Graduate Certificate in Behavioural Health and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT).

Leanne provides professional and compassionate therapy to adolescents, adults, families and couples, her style is both supportive and relational. She works collaboratively with people, using her training in theoretical frameworks to help them uncover any difficulties they may be facing and develop their own set of coping skills/strategies to enact change and become more self-aware.

Support Link Services is a private practice, located in a quiet and picturesque space away from the other demands in your life. However, you can also be supported in a variety of settings, which include home visits, phone or telehealth sessions.

Pet therapy

The presence of animals themselves is calming! Health and social inducing hormones such as Oxytocin, dopamine and endorphins are some of the best and most powerful social hormones we have. It has been cited in many studies that in addition to increasing levels in these hormones, interactions with animals can also lower heart rate and blood pressure.

There is a physiological, emotional and psychological component to interacting with animals during therapy. The key that links all of these positive benefits together is the hormone oxytocin. Oxytocin is a powerful healing mechanism and it is the most grossly affected hormone in the most positive way, through human to animal interaction. Patting a dog, cat or just being in their presence reduces stress, anxiety, depression, boredom, feelings of isolation or loneliness and due to these reasons’ animal therapy is undeniable.

Here at Support Link Services, Animal assisted therapy can serve in conjunction with work provided by a social worker, counsellor or therapist, we believe that animals can provide a sense of calm or safety and we have a number of furry friends ready to meet you.

  • Animal assisted therapy reduces stress and anxiety.

  • Provides a sense of calm which can lower heart rate and blood pressure.

  • Can improve upon levels of Oxytocin, which is a powerful and natural healing mechanism.

Mediation

Mediation is a process of negotiation which assists with dispute resolution. The process itself is both structured and interactive which encourages all participants to become involved in resolving their conflict or disagreement. The mediator’s main purpose is to guide participants towards an amicable and acceptable resolution for all.

Mediation aims to resolve differences between individuals, groups or organisations. It gives participants a chance to discuss their concerns and needs, it offers control to create a positive and agreed upon outcome for all involved. When executed correctly, the mediation process empowers those involved to retain control over the decisions which affect them, and it helps people to come to a resolution rather than having one imposed upon them.

At Support link services we will often call upon this unique set of skills in order to resolve a couple’s, family, community or business dispute. We offer a variety of conflict intervention processes which support everyone to address their own conflict needs. Mediation works towards strengthening relationships between people and groups, through creating processes which help everyone get the most out of the mediation process. In the end individuals are empowered and relationships are strengthened when conflicts are resolved through this cooperative process.

Group work

Group work or cooperative learning is a method that encourages people to work together. People who work together in groups have the potential to be more productive, creative and motivated than an individual working on their own. Collaborative skills developed through group work can help people move forward in life and in the workforce.

Working and learning in a group setting helps people to examine topics from the perspective of others. It teaches you to compare, contrast and integrate other perspectives into your own thinking. Therefore it is great for critical thinking and exploring concepts in a new way. Working in a group can also help people learn to negotiate and work with others that they might have otherwise clashed with. This can be extremely beneficial in finding a path through competing personalities in the work environment or at school.

Teamwork solves problems! Businesses thrive when they have a strong and diverse group of people who can effectively and respectfully contribute their individual ideas. If you have ever thought of using ‘group work’ as a way of strengthening ‘your group’, or if you don’t have the time to develop and facilitate group training, then give us a call. Here at Support Link Services, we are keen to discuss your needs and develop new programs based on your requirements and desired outcome.
